Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 is the successor to Microsoft's line of Windows Mobile phone operating systems, most recently Windows Mobile 6.5. It's based on the Windows CE 6 kernel, while current versions of Windows Mobile were based on Windows CE 5. WM6.5 and older handsets won't be able to upgrade to WP7. Microsoft announced the new OS at Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, and the first handsets were announced in October 2010.

In February 2010, Microsoft issued a press release listing the partners which had committed to Windows Phone 7. Hardware (OEM) partners were listed asDell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP , LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm. 12 Mobile network operators were listed as partners including Telstra and Vodafone. At launch, Windows Phone 7 will support 5 languages: English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Windows Phone Marketplace will support the buying and selling of applications in 17 countries and regions including Australia.

MobiCity will be stocking all unlocked versions of the new Windows Phone 7 devices available to the market. 10 handsets were announced on launch day. These were the HTC 7 Trophy, HD7, 7 Surround, 7 Pro and 7 Mozart, the LG Optimus 7 (E900) and Quantum 7 (C900) plus the Samsung Omnia 7 and Focus (Cetus/i917) and lastly the Dell Venue Pro (Lightning).
