Seems like I got the right phone this time ! Review by j0nn0h
Features Value Performance Design Having just changed from another brand after dissatisfaction with its operating system, I decided to try an Android. My main criteria were the phone had to be small, did not have to tie me to iTunes or any other proprietary software, and, above all, be light to carry and as small as possible. This phone seemed to fit all requirements. So. It is all of the above. It was the easiest phone to set up that I have ever owned. Synching with my Google account, Gmail, Contacts was dead easy. No hassles with drivers when connecting to the computer but a few irritations from there in. Solved by updating phone software and learning to use the Android market. I have only three grumps. One is personal, and the other two are technical. One is the way the operating system does not have an adequate file manager. This was aggravated by the way that the SD card is dismounted when you connect to your computer. So if you copy a file to your phone from the computer, you can't see it on the phone to reassure yourself it is there until you disconnect the phone from the computer first ! GRRR. I soon learned that whenever I have a problem, go to the Android market and there is a solution. Here I found some nice file managers, but this doesn't solve the mount/dismount thing. I miss my voice recorder, present on other phones, and a real time saver. No doubt the market will have one. I just haven't had time to look. The personal issue is the way that most developers seem to splatter files all over the storage in what looks to a PC person as an undisciplined mess, and the widgets (at least the ones I have acquired so far) don't seem to be able to get past the root directory on the SD card so everything would seem to have to be stored there ??? A real irritation for a tidy mind. Surely there is a point I am missing. The manufacturers produce good, simple support software for the PC that works. No hassle. First time. I had one occasion to ask a technical support question. I received a senisble answer within 24 hours and the advice was spot on. The documentation is excellent.I think I am going to like this phone. A lot. (Posted on 20/01/11)
