This is the ‘Next G’ compatible version of the Nokia N97, definitely one of the most loaded N-series phones currently available. It is the first high-end device to be powered by the latest Symbian S60 operating system and boasts a 3.5” touchscreen 360 x 640 resolution display with 16 million colours and a large full QWERTY keyboard.
The Nokia N97 supports quad-band GSM and HSDPA, WiFi, GPS and touch-enabled Nokia Maps with a digital compass. It also features a huge 32GB internal memory, 5 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack, TV-out and FM radio with RDS.
And for those who like new innovations, the Nokia N97 also contains an accelerometer for auto-screen rotation and a proximity sensor for auto-screen turn-off during calls.
The phone is free of carrier software and ready for use on all Australian networks.

What I expect from a Nokia Review by Vincent
Design Features Value Performance It was not without a little fear and trepidation that I ordered the N97 Next G phone. There is SO much bad publicity about it out there. After looking at the other phones on offer though I kept coming back to this phone. I have had such a good experience with my Nokia E51 I thought that if this is at least as good as that and with a larger screen then I'll be happy.
The experience with the team at Mobicity was reassuring, and they do what they say. The phone arrived as expected.
It did work, but slowly, and the battery only lasted a couple of hours. But then after a helpful chat with the service team the phone has been reset and reformatted (took 3 minutes in all !) and now she flys. It is all I expected from Nokia, and more. Quality is fantastic. The QWERTY keyboard makes my life easier, as does the touch screen. I love options and this phone gives that. I like things to work brilliantly. This phone does that.

Beats the pants off an iPhone. Technically sophisticated. Value for money. Review by Dave
Value Performance Design Features Have had this phone only a week, so it's not possible for me to rate it in the long term yet. However, despite it's complexities, it is very user friendly and fun to learn as one fiddles with it. The adjustable touch screen is a delight to use, reliable and positive in action. The tilt keyboard is robust as is the rest of the phone, giving it a solid, quality feel. It is not as bulky or heavy as some of its' contemporaries. The GPS capability does not function indoors and only sometimes in a car, so its' use should be restricted to outdoors where it works a treat. The range of applications and settings is truly amazing. The only glitch so far, is one incident where the phone failed to turn on and this had to be rectified by opening the back and re-installing the battery. Of course, the time and date also needed to be re-set. A nuisance but nothing serious. Only time will tell if this a repeat problem. Overall, I would recommend this phone as a viable alternative to the iPhone. (Posted on 2/10/09)

Some firmware issues Review by Davidhof
Value Performance Design Features I've had this phone for a couple of weeks now and love the functionality of the qwerty keyboard. Easy to use and set up and no issues with computer interface. Nokia suite works well with the phone and is easier than Itunes (although I haven't had a chance to test drive v9).
I also found that operating the keyguard lock to unlock the phone would not always cause the screen display to light up. This was resolved by downloading latest firmware which I would strongly recommend.

Outstanding device, great keyboard Review by Leigh
Value Performance Design Features Wow! The N97 definitely met my expectation! I especially love the keyboard and the angle it sits at which makes it easy to read. The layout is very easy to use and the widgets are a nice touch.
The camera works very well and the shutter speed is quick. The browser somewhat lags, but by changing some settings, it does improve.
Overall performance is acceptable. Every now and then it will go to a blank screen when it's clearing memory or opening an app, but it's a minor issue and doesn't happen every time. And when it comes to call quality, Nokia has always been excellent, and this is no exception. (Posted on 11/09/09)
