FAQ's
Q: What are the delivery options and charges?
A: Store pick up has a $9.95 handling fee, it's $ 17.95 (Insured Courier) or alternative options; accessories $9.95 (Regular Post), delivery to a PO Box $29.95 (International Registered Post).
Q: What is the delivery timeframe?
A: In stock - up to 5 business days (usually 1-3 days to Metro destinations and 5-7 days to Regional destinations). We are unable to commit to specific or guaranteed delivery times due to local factors.
Q: What is the warranty on the phone?
A: Our phones are mainly sourced from overseas markets. They are top quality but cheaper or more available than local stock. MobiCity provide a 12 month warranty on phone faults with service centres located across the country.
Q: Can I pick up my order?
A:   Our Business model is designed to offer the latest handsets at the cheapest prices. As a result our store location only holds a very limited number of handsets and it is highly recommended that you place an order or call first. The vast majority of our stock is held in the warehouse and sent direct to you by courier.
Q: What are your opening hours?
A: Our phone lines are open from Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm, the store is open until 5pm each day bar Friday when we close at 4pm. All times are currently AEDT. Outside of these hours please submit a contact form at our Contact Us page. Here you can also obtain our LiveChat, Facebook and Twitter details for social networking.
Q: What forms of payment are accepted?
A: Visa, Mastercard, American Express (2% Surcharge applies), Direct Deposit
Q: Are all your phones unlocked?
A: Yes, unless otherwise specified. While many new handsets will take you through a network configuration wizard and add your mobile internet and MMS settings (APN) others may require manual configuration. For more information please call our sales team on 1300 14 6624.
Q: Do your phones come with GPS maps?
A: GPS hardware and software are two different components of a devices' GPS capability. All phones with GPS hardware should be able to utilise the free software GoogleMaps and NokiaMaps for Nokia handsets, however these services require a data connection and you may be charged by your network, according to your plan. MobiCity makes no guarantee that stock sourced from overseas destinations contains pre-loaded maps for use in the buyer's region. In instances where the phone does not contain local maps, the onus is on the buyer to source the maps independently of MobiCity.
Q: What does NextG mean?
A: NextG is Telstra's name for it's own 3rd-Generation system, although as it is faster and more wide-ranging than normal 3G it is also known as a 3.5G network. NextG replaces CDMA and works at the same band; 850MHz. It encompases all the 3rd-Generation facilities (video, high-speed data, etc), which CDMA could not. It uses CDM technology, so like CDMA, it's not restricted to the GSM limit of 32km range. In fact most users find that they receive better range than the CDMA it replaced.
Q: What is the difference between 3G and Next G?
A: The only real difference is frequency, speed and coverage, although NextG is a proprietary format and restricted to Telstra customers only, and they must have a NextG SIM to utilise the service.
Q: Do I need a Telstra NextG phone to operate the NextG network?
A: Yes and No. The NextG network uses the UMTS 850 frequency, so only phones capable of operating on this frequency can use the network. If you put a NextG SIM card in a 3G phone that does not support UMTS 850, it may work on Telstra's UMTS 2100 network, which has a smaller coverage area. However, any UMTS 850 compatible phone will allow you to connect to the network. If the handset does not support UMTS 850 or 2100 it will generally back up onto the 2G network. For more information please contact our sales team on 1300 14 6624.
Q: Will all NextG services work on your UMTS 850 handsets?
A: Please be aware that our handsets are free from carrier software (unless specified otherwise) so additional configuration may be required to access high-end services like Mobile Foxtel. Calls, SMS, MMS, mobile email and internet is relatively easy to set up and most functions will work out of the box.
Q: What is an Open Box Special?
A: Open Box Specials are phones that are as-new. The box has been opened in order for the handset to be demonstrated in store or a customer 48-hour change of mind. They still come with a full 12-month warranty and unless otherwise noted are in a very good condition.
Q: Are your phones brand new and unopened?
A: All our phones are brand new, unless marked as an Open Box Special. Whilst all new mobile phones are normally shrink-wrapped, a technician in our warehouse has already opened the box. This is to ensure that all the functions and features have been tested and quality assured to reduce the incidence of the handset being dead-on-arrival (DOA). Your 12-month AWS warranty is not affected.
